Zip Zap Boing – The Next Level

SETUP:
Gather all participants in a circle, ensuring everyone can see and hear each other clearly.

INTRODUCTION:
Explain that the game involves passing energy around the circle using different actions and sounds. We like to show one action, practise it then show another action and practise it with the first action and so on.

ACTIONS AND CUES:

  1. ZIP
Action: Clap hands towards the person next to you while looking at them.
    Phrase: Say “Zip.”
Process: Pass the “Zip” to the person on either side of you in the circle. The next person can either “Zip” to the next player or change the action.
  2. ZAP
Action: Clap both hands together and point them towards any player in the circle (not the people next to you).
    Phrase: Say “Zap.”
Process: Send the “Zap” to any person in the circle, making eye contact with them. The person who receives it can continue with a different action.
If you have received a Zap you cannot Zap the person who gave you the Zap.
  3. BOING
Action: Place your hands flat and push them outward toward the person who sent you the energy, as if pushing them away.
    Phrase: Say “Boing.”
Process: “Boing” sends the energy back to the person who just sent it to you. It can only be used to return energy to the previous player. In our version you cannot Boing a Zap!
  4. SPRING
Action: Raise both hands above your head, then point in the direction of the person you are sending it to.
    Phrase: Say “Spring.”
Process: You can send the “Spring” in either direction, allowing more flexibility.
  5. WHOOSH
Action: Extend both hands toward the person you want to swap places with and look them in the eye.
    Phrase: Say “Whoosh.”
Process: You and the person you “Whoosh” must swap places in the circle while everyone else whispers “Whoosh” and waves their arms. The person who was “Whooshed” then continues the game. Each player can only use “Whoosh” once per round. You can Whoosh anyone in the circle.
  6. BANG!
Action: Point hands toward the person next to you and shout “Bang!”
    Phrase: Say “Bang!” loudly.
Process: The next person must continue passing the “Bang” in the same direction. To stop the Bang a player receiving the Bang turns towards the person who sent the Bang to them and slowly says “Bang” while shaking their hands. The player who stopped the bang continues the game.
  7. SPRING BANG
Action: Jump in the air with your hands raised like a “Spring” and say “Spring Bang.”
    Phrase: Say “Spring Bang.”
Process: “Spring Bang” continues like a chain reaction, with the next person jumping and saying it. To stop the chain, someone must say “Bang Spring” without jumping and shake their hands. The player who stopped the spring bang continues the game.
  8. SHIVER
Action: Shiver down to the floor and back up with a shivering sound.
    Phrase: Make a shiver sound.
Process: “Shiver” is a get-out-of-jail-free action that can only be used once per player during the game. Everyone in the circle must also shiver when it is used. This give the player who used the shiver card, time to think of what action they want to do.

PRACTICE ROUND:
Conduct a practice round where each player gets a chance to try each action. Ensure everyone understands the flow of the game before starting the actual round.

ELIMINATION:
Players are eliminated for:
Being too slow, using the wrong action, going when it’s not their turn, incorrectly responding to an action or breaking any rules!

have fun with it!
